The Bible says that we need help because it's spiritual discerned.
...these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 1 Corinthians 2:10–14

When Jesus was on earth he helped his followers to understand the scriptures.
Then [Jesus] opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. Luke 24:45
Before he ascended to heaven, he promised that they would be sent the Holy Spirit to help them.
But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 14:26
As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things. 1 John 2:27
(This doesn't mean we don't need teachers. I compare it to food prep. Anyone can go in the kitchen and prepare food, but there are some, like my wife, who are gifted and can prepare wonderful meals. Any Christian can read the Bible, but God has gifted certain people to prepare excellent teachings.)
The primary purpose of the Spirit's help is for us to know God better.
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. Ephesians 1:17
We can read the Bible diligently, but it will do us little good if don't remember it. That was the point of Jesus' parable of the Sower and the seed when he said some seed fell along the path and the birds ate it up. Satan's tactic is to keep people from reading God's word, and if they do read it, he tries to get them to forget it.
One of our daily struggles is to avoid sin. The biblical prescription to enable us to do that is found in Psalm 119.
I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.
Psalm 119:11
We can read the Bible diligently, but it will do us little good if remember it but don't apply it.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. James 1:22
[Jesus said] "Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me." John 14:21
Another main reason to know God's word is to equip us the share it with others.
As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard. Acts 4:20
But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15
Of course, if you are going to share God's word you want to do your best to share it accurately.
Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15
I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread. Job 23:12
